Pokemon Radical Red Cheats – Rare Candy, Shiny Codes & More

Cheat codes for Pokemon Radical Red exist, but they come with a serious warning: using cheats can break your save file. The game’s creator, soupercell, explicitly states that bugs reported after using cheats will not be addressed. That said, there are a few codes the community has verified as safe when used carefully, plus one official code built into the game itself.

This guide covers the codes that actually work in Radical Red v4.1, how to enter them, and which ones to avoid.

The official “Shiny” Mystery Gift code

Radical Red v4.1 added a legitimate shiny-hunting code. This is not a third-party cheat — it is an official Mystery Gift reward for New Game Plus.

  • Code: Shiny (case-sensitive)
  • Where to redeem: Talk to Nurse Joy in any Pokemon Center, select Mystery Gift
  • Requirement: New Game Plus save file
  • Effect: Encourages shiny hunting (the exact boost is not documented, but it pairs with the game’s updated shiny odds of 2/4096 base, 6/4096 with Shiny Charm)

This is the only code that will never cause bugs. Use it.

Rare Candy cheat (Woyaopp on NES)

The most popular cheat for Radical Red is the Rare Candy code, entered through the in-game NES device.

  • Code: Woyaopp
  • Where to enter: Talk to the NES in your bedroom at the start of the game
  • Effect: Enables the “Set To Level Cap” option from the Pokemon Center assistant, allowing you to instantly level your Pokemon to the current boss level cap

This code does not give you infinite Rare Candies in your bag. Instead, it unlocks a convenience feature that saves grinding time. It is considered safe by the community and is even referenced in the official v4.1 changelog.

Codes that work (use at your own risk)

The following GameShark / Action Replay codes have been tested by the community on Radical Red v4.1. They work on mGBA and VBA emulators. Back up your save before using any of them.

Master Ball (infinite)

82005274 0001 82005276 0001

Enter this code, then buy a single Poke Ball from a Poke Mart. It will turn into a Master Ball. Turn the code off after purchasing to avoid corrupting your bag.

Rare Candy (infinite item)

82005274 0044 82005276 0044

Same method as Master Ball — buy a Poke Ball with the code active to get Rare Candies. Turn the code off immediately after.

Walk through walls

509197D3 542975F4 78DA95DF 44018CB4

Useful for getting stuck or bypassing puzzles. Turn it off before entering a new area to avoid softlocks.

Shiny Pokemon (wild encounters)

D8BAE4D9 4864DCE5 A86CDBA5 19BA49B3

Activates shiny wild encounters. Turn off after catching what you want — leaving it on can cause the game to freeze on certain tiles.

Codes that break the game

Avoid these entirely:

  • Max money / infinite coins — corrupts the Game Corner and can softlock your save
  • Instant catch — causes Pokemon to appear with missing data, leading to crashes
  • All TMs — overwrites key item flags and breaks story progression
  • Any code that modifies a Pokemon’s stats directly — the game’s level cap system will reject illegal Pokemon and may delete them

How to enter cheat codes

Radical Red runs on the FireRed GBA engine, so you use standard GBA emulator cheat entry:

  1. Open your emulator (mGBA, VBA, myBoy, JohnGBA)
  2. Navigate to the cheats menu
  3. Add a new cheat with the code
  4. Set the format to GameShark or Action Replay (most codes use Action Replay format)
  5. Enable the code, play the game, disable it as soon as you get what you need

On mGBA: Go to Tools → Cheats → Add Cheat. Paste the code, select Action Replay, and name it.

On myBoy (Android): Menu → Cheats → Add New Code. Paste the code and save.

The safest way to skip grinding

Before using any third-party code, consider the built-in options:

  • Min Grinding Mode — removes EV training entirely and sets all Pokemon to optimal IVs. Choose this at the start of the game.
  • Easy Mode + Min Grinding Mode — the least grindy official experience
  • The official Shiny code — the only cheat that is guaranteed safe

The Rare Candy code (Woyaopp) is the next safest option because it only affects the level cap feature, not your save data structure.

What to do if a cheat breaks your save

If you use a code and the game starts crashing, freezing, or displaying glitched Pokemon:

  1. Load your backup save (always keep one before using cheats)
  2. If you have no backup, try loading a save state from before the cheat was active
  3. If neither works, you will need to start a new game

This is why the community recommends playing through Radical Red without cheats first. The game is designed to be beaten with the tools it gives you — the level cap, nature changer in every Pokemon Center, and EV training gear make grinding far less painful than in vanilla FireRed.
